Synthia ModCaster

The ModCaster is an experimental electric guitar platform that integrates a fully embedded Eurorack modular system directly into the instrument body.

Built on a modified Tele-style format, the ModCaster is designed for players who want immediate, physical access to synthesis, modulation, and signal routing while performing. Instead of separating guitar and modular workflows, the instrument unifies them into a single playable system.

This transforms the guitar from a signal source into a modular instrument capable of real-time sound design, processing, and experimentation.

Design Overview

  • Tele-style electric guitar body modified to house dual Eurorack skiff sections.
  • Total of 26HP modular space split across: 18HP main bay and 8HP utility section
  • Designed for direct interaction with modular controls while playing.
  • Fully hand-routed construction allows for flexible material selection and custom builds.

System Architecture

  • Embedded Eurorack system is physically integrated into the guitar body.
  • External power supply (current prototypes), with planned internal power via the Synthia ModPanel system.
  • Open Eurorack format allows players to configure their own modules and signal chains.

Signal Flow

  • Guitar signal can be routed directly into the Eurorack system for processing.
  • Supports full chain routing: Guitar → Eurorack → Output
  • Final output is dependent on the user’s module configuration and patching.
  • System behavior is fully defined by the modules installed by the player.

Build and Materials

  • Hand-routed bodies enable flexible wood selection (maple, pine, redwood, and more).
  • Each unit is built individually, allowing for variations in material and finish.
  • Construction prioritizes modular integration and physical accessibility.

Use Case

The ModCaster is designed for players who want to go beyond traditional guitar effects and into full modular sound design.

  • Live performance with real-time patching and control
  • Studio experimentation and signal processing
  • Hybrid workflows combining guitar playing with modular synthesis

Rather than functioning as a pedalboard replacement, the ModCaster reframes the guitar itself as part of a modular synthesizer system.
